PRESS: Russia to pick most promising Linux OS for state aid

MOSCOW, Nov 1 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Digital Development Ministry will choose three Linux-based operating systems from the register of national software to oblige developers to adapt their software to them and optimize state support, business daily Kommersant reported on Tuesday quoting IT market sources.

A source close to the ministry said that it ordered the Center of Excellence on Import Replacement of Information and Communications Technologies a poll to determine the operating systems that are most popular among the country’s companies that showed that they are Astra Linux, Alt, and Red OS, which are all Linux-based.

The center has already submitted results of the research to the office of Deputy Minister Maxim Parshin.

The software register now contains 13,900 products and 4,400 copyright holders, including more than 50 operating systems. The owners of these software products enjoy preferences in state purchases and tax allowances, among others.
